The Reference Department
Librarians and library assistants can answer queries in person, by telephone, or by e-mail. Staff members assist with book reserves, interlibrary loans, suggestions for leisure reading, and library instruction and orientation. Email Address: refdesk@guilfordfreelibrary.org
The library offers the latest in no-fee information technology. Special databases include iCONN, a full-text index of periodicals and the Historical New York Times (full-text articles from 1851-2001). For a full list of available electronic resources, click here. Collection
The Online Public Access Catalogs (PACs) display the holdings of the Guilford Free Library and the 21 other libraries in the LION (LibrariesOnLine) consortium.
Our collection offers both fiction and non-fiction in a variety of formats including Large Print.
Our Audio-Visual Collection includes Books on Tape, Books on CD, Videotapes and DVDs. In addition, we offer a Foreign and Independent Film Collection that changes every three months. We have an extensive Literacy Collection, which includes books, workbooks, audiotapes and videos. We also offer a Best Seller Collection, which consists of additional copies of popular books, which circulate for one week only.

Computers and Instruction
Patrons can use any of the 40 computer workstations that are in the upstairs Reference area, or downstairs in the Childrens' Room. All have Internet access, and can be used for one hour. Additional time may be available, depending on demand. Only one person may use a workstation at a time. For saving material, flash drives are available for circulation at the Reference Desk.
Library staff is available for one-on-one computer instruction; call for an appointment. The Library periodically offers Computer Classes. Watch local newspapers for information, or call the Reference Department at 203-453-8282.
The library has one public copier located upstairs in the Reference area. Copies are fifteen cents a page for black & white and thirty cents a page for color.
The library has a two public printers with the option of color printing available, a copy machine, a fax machine, two scanners, a microfilm reader/printer and a large format monitor available for public use.
Free wireless access to the internet is available throughout the building.
Internet Access
The Internet offers unlimited global access to information. The Guilford Free Library does not monitor or control the content of material available through this medium. Parents or guardians of children under 14 are responsible for their children's use of the Internet (as they are for all books/materials used by children in their charge). Book Groups
The Friends of the Library also sponsor a book discussion group. Contact the Library for information.
